The second round of the Countryside Productivity Small Grant scheme is now open for applications but only for a limited time. The scheme aims to support investment in agricultural equipment and boost productivity by providing funding for farmers to purchase specialised equipment.

The deadline for applications for Round 2 is 12noon on Tuesday 3rd September. Those wishing to apply need to act quickly, therefore, to ensure their application is submitted on time. More than 3,500 applications were received in Round 1, with £15million being awarded to successful applicants. The same amount is on offer for Round 2, though some changes have been made.

What funding is available from the Countryside Productivity Small Grant Scheme?

The scheme offers grants on 40% of the standard cost of an item or piece of equipment (50% for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly) with a minimum grant of £3,000 and a maximum of £12,000. There are 87 eligible items listed that applicants can choose from, 26 of which are new this year.

The scheme aims to help achieve improvements in one of the following

• Technical efficiency

• Animal health and wellbeing

• Resource efficiency

• Nutrient management

Am I eligible to apply?

The scheme is eligible for all farm types, including livestock, dairy, arable and horticulture, based in England. Businesses that carry out some contracting work but whose main activity is farming can also apply.

I claimed in Round 1, can I apply again?

Applicants who were successful in Round 1 can still apply for funding this year if the grant they claimed was between £3,000 and £9,000. The total value for both rounds must not exceed the maximum £12,000.

Those who received a grant of more than £9,000 in Round 1 are not eligible to apply.

How do I apply for the scheme?

Applications must be made by the 3rd September deadline. Our Agriculture team can advise you on your eligibility and support you with your application. You must be registered in the Rural Payment service before you apply. If you are already registered, check that your information is correct before applying.

You will be informed by email after the closing date detailing whether or not your application has been approved. If successful, funds must be claimed within 150 days of the grant offer.

It is important that equipment applied for under the scheme is not ordered or purchased before confirmation of a successful application has been received. Doing so will make your application and claim ineligible.
