As the festive seasons gets underway, Thomas Westcott is supporting The Trussell Trust to build a hunger free future for people across the country.
In previous years, we have celebrated the festive period with our partners, colleagues and professional contacts at our annual champagne reception. With this not being possible in 2020, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are supporting The Trussell Trust and their network of food banks with a charitable donation.
Managing Partner Shona Godefroy said: “This has been such a difficult year for communities across the South West. As a firm, we have always been committed to supporting those local communities and many of our staff go above and beyond to make a difference outside of work too.
“So this year, we have made a donation to The Trussell Trust in lieu of our usual celebrations. The charity is a truly deserving cause and we are very pleased to support them and the fantastic work they do to help people on a daily basis. Food banks provide a lifeline to people in a financial crisis and, sadly, over the past few months, they have been busier than ever.”
The Trussell Trust provides emergency food to people in poverty and campaigns for change to end the need for food banks in this country. The charity relies on the support of local communities. Non-perishable food is donated by the public at collections points in supermarkets, schools, churches and other community spaces. It is then sorted by volunteers into emergency food parcels.
In the UK, more than 14million people are living in poverty. In the current pandemic, the charity has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of people in need. Between April and September alone, The Trussell Trust, and the network of food banks they support nationwide provided 1.2million emergency food parcels to people in crisis.
